Memorial Statue Unveiling

SUNDAY 28 OCTOBER 2018

One unbeatable weekend!

Venue:
The reserve on the corner of High Street and Grey Street, Strathalbyn – opposite the Robin Hood Hotel.
Time:
10am Sunday

The Statue
The memorial statue of Kenny Blake and his 1976 Suzuki RG500 bike will be made from mechanical parts, engine components, suspension, hand tools and general motorcycle hardware. The statue will be a lifesize replica of a bike mid-race, the stance for the art piece seeks to achieve a pose similar to that of riders in Kenny’s era. The image below is representative of the final art – however the maquette uses a modern bike and doesn’t have a rider.

The statue will sit on a solid brick base made up of approximately 400 bricks from Littlehampton Bricks. The land that the statue sits on has been kindly donated by Alexandrina Council.

The Artist
The artist that is creating the memorial statue to celebrate Kenny Blake’s life and achievements is Goolwa’s James Stewart. James has a diverse visual arts past, spanning 39 years as an artist, painter, photographer, sculptor, illustrator and more! His art can be described as ‘assemblage art’, creating pieces from recycled, scrap and new metal. Building the perfect piece is like creating an optical illusion according to James. He uses his skills to create a balanced piece of art, whose finished shape allows the pieces used to shine!
